How do I fix a lens error on a Nikon Coolpix 4600 digital camera?

How do I fix this? My camera is no longer under warranty so I cannot easily replace it. thanks

I have a Coolpix 3700 with the same problem – took it to a repair shop and they said to send it for repairs would be $175. Not worth it…
I’ve heard of people realign the lens by hitting the side of the camera or gently pulling it out…sounds risky but right now my camera is just a paperweight so I figure it might be worth a shot…
